Industries and Applications

The Foldstar technology originated in Aerospace, specifically deployable space structures, but folding can be used in a variety of industries. The use of sheet materials means that folding is the most efficient method to create unique patterns, devices, and structures via low-cost manufacturing.

Folding can create high-performance core materials in laminated panels, multi-laminate bulk materials with cellular structure and soundproofing/impact protection. Other interesting applications include creating deployable structures and inflatable soft-goods due to the folding capabilities of our tessellations.

Packaging

Tessellated materials can be great alternatives to honey-comb. Create unique protective packaging, ornamental boxes, and pop-up displays.

Architecture

Folded materials can be produced for roofing, facades, wall/ceiling treatments, ornamental columns and structural panels.

Aerospace

Design high performance core materials with tailorable mechanical properties and efficiently packing deployable structures for antenna, solar panels, reflectors, and soft-good
products.

Automotive

Develop lightweight components for door, hood, and unibody applications that provide stiffness and energy absorbing properties at a cost-effective price point.
